- Optimally, the liquid should be dropped directly onto the mucous membrane of the mouth, including lips.
- For dogs: Pull out the labial pouch and apply the drops.
- For cats: Raise the head until the mouth opens, then apply the drops.
- If a pet finds direct dosing distressing or the owner is unable to comply, the drops can be mixed in water, milk, or food.
- If your pet is sensitive to the alcohol preservative, allow 10–20 minutes for the alcohol to evaporate before presenting the liquid or food.
- Occasionally, pets may shake their head or cats may salivate excessively when dosed directly. In such cases, giving the drops in food, water, or milk may help.
- Small mammals (rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, pot-bellied pigs, guinea pigs): Dose by weight as for cats and dogs using the dosing chart.
- For severe cases, a drop can be diluted in 1 ml of water or oral rehydration fluid.
- Example: Two drops for a mouse or small bird, four drops for a large guinea pig.
- Administer one dose 3 times daily as needed.
- For birds, dose once per day only.
